Just a few months in, I am still finding my feet with this newsletter thing - the cadence, the time to write, the length of posts. I feel like I have so much I want to share, but not enough time to sit down and do so. A problem I have across all my channels! I need a clone of myself, to procrastinate less or lower my expectations. My therapist would probably advise the latter.
I inevitably get carried away writing each post, with ideas swimming around that mean I keep adding and adding and all of a sudden I’m days behind when I was hoping to hit send. Hopefully this excitement comes through in my posts, even if they are often long and late!
I guess that’s also a challenge with having your own business - there’s no one to tell you when something is finished and if you make your own deadlines these can often be pushed so you just keep going and going. I can spend hours tweaking photos, layout and colours. How do I know when to stop?
I’ve noticed that I love to start things - I have a creative mind, always thinking of new ideas - but doing that final portion to get me over my perceived finish line is where I struggle. For example, I have so many posts in draft that I haven’t quite finessed enough to send out. I want to change the intro, add pictures, links and more detail - things that likely no one would notice. I’m paralysed by my own perfectionism.
I’ve considered making The Weekly Edit a bi-weekly or monthly feature, but I always have so many discoveries I love to share. I’m going to play around with different frequencies to see what sticks. My goal is consistency, but that is something I often fall short on. (It’s something I mention in my podcast episode that went live today on CEO Yourself)
The above are some of the reasons I’m keeping my newsletter free for now. Whilst hours and hours go into these newsletters (with the huge help of my Assistant, Lucy) and I am often giving up my mornings or evenings to write, I am clearly still working out my rhythm (if I ever get to that). This newsletter is hopefully a longterm thing so a few months is a short period in the long run.
I mentioned briefly in an Instagram Story the other day that I’d love to start a series with photography tips so that will be in the works soon too, likely as a paid offering. I can’t give away all my secrets for free ;)
I’ve tried to make The (Bi-)Weekly Edit more visual this week! As always, I love to hear your thoughts and feedback so please comment below.
THE WEEKLY EDIT
A quick fire of what’s in my eyes, ears, mouth, mind etc.
EATING
Bistro Freddie | I returned to my fave Shoreditch bistro for a girls night featuring pies + champagne. It really doesn’t disappoint!
Leo’s | Leo’s is totally worth crossing London for - the food and interiors are sublime. Highlights include lasagne and tiramisu.
At Sloane | This is going to be my new go-to whenever I’m meeting someone in Chelsea - it’s a chic, tranquil haven
Bébé Bob | This is the latest Soho spot from the team behind Bob Bob Ricard. The solo main offering is rotisserie chicken with a selection of sides. It was so good and we loved the apple tart dessert
HIDE | The team from my favourite hotel in The Dolomites, Forestis, came over to London to host a dinner at HIDE, which was characteristically beautiful. HIDE is such a special restaurant and I’m desperate to visit for breakfast next
Berenjak | I’ve had Persian restaurant Berenjak on my list for so long, but it’s usually impossible to get into. I visited with my friend Fran on a quiet Tuesday and we were lucky to get a table! Anywhere that does incredible dips and bread is a yes from me. For anyone visiting Soho Farmhouse, they’ve opened a Berenjak there now!
VISITING
I’ve visited so many art galleries recently on my recent trips and in London last week I went to see my friend Jessica Yolanda Kaye’s latest exhibition - BED. She has curated it so beautifully with hundreds of metres of fabric as the backdrop to her stunning art
EXPLORING
I’ve been to Bruton and Margate recently - I’m prepping EDITED Mini Guides for both!
ATTENDING
Surrenne | I visited the incredible Surrenne club - a next generation wellbeing club from the Maybourne hotel group underneath The Berkeley. They have the first Tracey Anderson Studio outside of the US and I’d love to try it!
Aesop School | We were transported back to school, but with a seriously cool makeover in true Aesop style. This was a wonderful event to celebrate the launch of their new Immaculate Facial Tonic
Pottery Class | I was invited to a pinch pottery class in the Toast offices as part of their A/W press day. It was hosted by ceramicist PPP Lab and I had the best time. I made a matcha bowl as my two are never enough. I was also ogling over all the Toast pieces!
CELEBRATING
PAMPERING
Wildsmith at Liberty | The Wildsmith team (the science-backed skincare brand from Heckfield Place) have brought a slice of their Bothy Spa to Liberty with a little Wildsmith House on the first floor, where you can have a 30-minute facial complete with the soundtrack of the Heckfield grounds. It’s a totally transportive mini-escape
Luceo Dental | Now I wouldn’t usually consider going to the Hygienist pampering, but I also wouldn’t consider a dentist to be so beautiful nor have such a wonderful team. Enter Luceo Dental, my dental experiences have reached new heights
BOOKING | We've been doing some home improvements and I know that finding people you can trust is always so hard. Josh is a friend and owns Newlove Trade & Craft, which we can wholeheartedly recommend in London!
WRITING
Partnership Editions Journal | I was delighted to be asked to join the Partnership Editions Journal this month. I always love to read their features so it was an honour to feature. I really admire the business and whenever they have a new drop of art I’m straight on their site to look
FEATURING
Sheerluxe Show | I had such fun on the Sheerluxe Show last week joining the panel. We talked new season fashion and life mottos
I’m hoping to share the Margate Mini Guide later this week so speak then! For now, please do spread the word about EDITED, it means so much!
